There was a point about 6 to 12 months ago where I was obsessed with Buffy The Vampire Slayer. (Again, I was relapsing) I thought the idea of a small town coming under vampire attacks was a really fascinating theme. It is one that appears in Salem's Lot and 30 Days of Night which I love both. So therefore I started looking for a table top vampire game. I already loved and knew White Wolfs Vampire: The Masquerade, but I wanted something a little easier that I could convince non-gamers to play. What I came up with was Forever Young.
Forever Young is a Twilight Creations game about Vampires. Twilight Creations is most well known for their ZOMBIES!!! board game line. Forever Young is their attempt at the vampire theme. At a first glance I automatically noticed the art work was great, the usual dark comic book feeling you get from all Twilight Creations products. The pieces heavy cardboard and plastic, durable and sturdy, and they come in plentiful stock. (It's a heavy little box)
The game-play itself revolves around a little strategy and a lot of luck. In the game you control a clan of Vampires fighting for power in this small town. In order to do that you have to be clever and secretive in where you stash your clans supplies, and hide human servants, and leaders. The point of the game is to find the other clans leader and human followers and slay them. Either that or you have to find the nest where all the Vampires lay down to rest at night and slay them. It takes a little strategy but more luck. The fights are all done with dice and the clues tend to sort of be found at random.

If there was one way to describe it as, it feels like playing a memory game with a twist. There are all these tiles face down that represent the things listed above. you move your clans pawns and try to find all the things you need at random. So there is strategy to hiding your own pieces, but mostly luck in finding them.
So that said, it is a decent strategy game (but is more of a game of luck. Lot's of die rolling and random card pulling). It is weak in capturing the theme of feuding Vampire clans. I was expecting an Underworld, or maybe even Buffy sort of feeling to this game. It has little of both while not really capturing either. It just feels like a strategy game with a lot of luck involved. The pieces just so happen to be called vampires.
I suppose that if you got into a gaming group of strong role players you could dig in a find the theme, act out or describe the deaths, or try to make story as you go, but it requires too much work. I guess this game is fun to play with people who aren't that into hard core gaming. I much prefer Arkham Horror or Betrayal at House on the Hill to this game. It's still fun and I pull it out now and then, but it isn't my favorite.

Summing it Up
A good game for a decent price but too light on the elements of the vampire theme. If you're a huge Vampire fan go ahead and get it. If your a big strategy game fan, it's a toss up. I like it just fine personally, and I will hold onto it. It's worth that much at least.
