Here at A Slice of Horror we are glad to be back to doing mid-week reviews. More updates means more content for you, our readers. Thank you for visiting the website!
To kick off the mid-week reviews again we are taking a look at a short four episode web series (a prologue and three successive episodes) called "Scary Sticky Stories," a series created by the UBC Theater in New York and posted under the YouTube channel GoatTape.
"Scary Sticky Stories" is a simplistic story about a young man who receives his uncle's will stating that he will receive his inheritance only after working out all night long at an old haunted gym.
In the prologue the young man arrives at the gym and finds a dead man hanging from the rafters. He soon finds out that this man, who is somewhat undead, is actually an employee at the gym.
In the first episode the young man meets a beautiful girl at the gym and tries to hit on her, only to experience some gooey and adverse results.
In the third episode the young man learns of the horrifying ingredients in the gym's specialized energy drink.
And in the final episode the young man's dead uncle comes back from the grave for a visit. The old corpse warns the young man about a horrible fate coming his way if he doesn't change his ways.

"Scary Sticky Stories" isn't so much a series as it is a bunch of gags and jokes put into a series of two to three minute videos. So don't expect any type of real storyline or resolution when going and watching this series. But also don't be hesitant to watch the series. At only two or three minutes an episode you can finish the entire set of videos in one short sitting.
While the videos are random and a little weird, they do have a cheesy humor to them that is reminiscent of horror comedies from the 80s such as Saturday the 14th and Student Bodies. There is minor blood and gore and many stupid jokes all of which poke fun at the "bros" (or the stereotype thereof) who frequent public gyms. The main actor does a good job at portraying the stereotype.
But all in all some of the jokes fall flat and there isn't really any scares to speak of. So don't go in expecting any type of story, character, or laugh-out-loud humor. However, the cheesy nature of the movies makes them somewhat enjoyable.

Summing it Up
"Scary Sticky Stories" isn't anything great or new. However, it does have a little strange charm to it. It is mostly reminiscent of weird cult films of the 70s and 80s. The jokes are somewhat dry but the horror element is decently fun. And the concept of a haunted gym is novel. It would have been neat to see this concept as a full length 80s style slasher film instead of these comedy skits. If you have ten minutes free and are looking for some mindless entertainment than give these episodes a watch.
