I'm a huge fan of everything related to the popular video game franchise: Resident Evil. I have fond memories of playing the original game on my PlayStation one and getting scared out of my mind. I recently downloaded the original for my PS3 and it is just as fun and scary as ever before. But, I always envied my brother and his Gamecube because he had the beautiful and very scary Resident Evil remake. I would sit and watch him play this title for hours and wish that I had a copy too. Well, now my chance has come! The creators at Capcom have just announced that they will be releasing an HD version of the Resident Evil remake on all the next gen consoles. That includes PS4, XBOXONE, PC, PS3, and XBOX360. I am very excited for this release and will be buying my copy on the day it comes out. Resident Evil is my favorite survival horror franchise and this announcement just makes my day, especially since I've just been replaying through the original! See the announcement for yourself in the Youtube video below. Remember to turn on the captions because it is in Japanese.

Hello readers. I simply wanted to write a post and apologize for not having the mid-week review posted last Wednesday. We had a flood here in Rexburg, Idaho that did a lot of damage to the local college campus as well as to many local homes. Some families who live in basement apartments lost everything. Luckily, my wife and I live on the third floor of our building so we were unaffected by the flood. But, I have spent my week checking in on all my local friends and helping out where I can. So, this meant the Wednesday review got pushed aside. Now that things are dying down I will be continuing with normal reviews! Thank you to anyone who visits this site and enjoys the posts and reviews here. Please continue to come back and give feedback and post comments! The time has come! I am happy and excited to announce the official release of my new book Office Horrors in Paperback and for Kindle. It is a dark horror story based loosely off the Online Course Development office building on the Brigham Young University Idaho Campus. Both the versions of the book are now available for purchase online. Currently the paperback version is only available through the Create Space e-store. As an author I gain more revenue through the Create Space e-store. But if you want to wait a few short days you can get the paperback through Amazon. And if you buy the paperback on Amazon you also get a discount on the Kindle edition. The links for both sites are here: PAPERBACK: $7.00 KINDLE: $2.99 Also, please be aware that this is a 13+ book. There are scenes of horror violence and some moderate language. If you want to preview the book you can read the first 10 chapters at Office Horrors.com. There is also a short Kindle preview on Amazon. And thank you for supporting independent authors. Office Horrors Kindle edition is now available for purchase. This is an earlier release than originally intended for this little macabre novella. You can get it now on the Amazon Kindle store for only $2.99! But, if you're the type of person that prefers a physical copy no worries! The paperback version of Office Horrors will become available on July 1st! And, as a special promotion, if you buy a physical copy you can also purchase the kindle version for a reduced price of 99 cents. It's a quick and exciting read with inspirations rooted in splatter film from the 1980s. So needless to say there is a bit of gore and mayhem to wet your appetite. Feel free to read the sample on amazon or on www.officehorrors.com. Well, as some of you probably already know, I love independent horror. Be it films, books, comics, or anything macabre, I am all for supporting the hard working creators behind the independent works of the macabre we see coming out each year. I also love, love, love, the classic horror comics from the 1950s. I basically have them to thank for much of my macabre enjoyment as a child. Well, I'm very excited to promote the kickstarter for The Mortuary Collection. It is an independent anthology horror film that seems to take its inspiration from some great works of the past such as Tales from the Crypt, Creepshow, Tales from the Darkside, and of course those classic EC horror comics! It looks like it will be a classic anthology tale with lots of macabre atmosphere and--of course--gooey gore! The filmmakers are trying to raise $50,000 to film the first segment of their "The Babysitter." This one looks to be promising in so many ways! So if your a horror fan--especially one who likes the goofy gore of the 80s or classic gothic--then go ahead and support their kickstater HERE! I'm sure we won't regret it! And also check out their awesome promotional video below! As June approaches I am getting more and more excited to be reviewing all "camp" themed horror films and books throughout the entire month. Camping horror films are my favorite sub-genre of horror (right after the classic "old dark house" genre.) The woods are often a frightening place. They are isolated from any civilization, they are dark, they are large and immense, and they are very easy to get lost in. Who knows what sort of evils lurk out there in the thick trees? Well, it seems that the cast and crew of Beacon Point understand the fear that comes with the wilderness better than most. The Kickstarter for the independent horror film Beacon Point has reached its goal with time to spare! This great looking film of backwoods horror is something to keep an eye on and look forward to. And the film makers behind this project are looking to pack as much awesome cinematography and scares as possible into this film. So, they are stretching their goal on Kickstarter to make $30,000. That way they can provide the best horror experience possible! If you haven't checked out this movie yet then have a look! It has great promise and looks to deliver! Help out the team behind Beacon Point by supporting their Kickstarter here! Over the last weekend I was on vacation to my home town of Denver, Colorado. Because of driving and traveling I was unable to post any midweeks reviews during the last two weeks. I apologize to followers and visitors of A Slice of Horror for not having those normally scheduled reviews. Luckily I am back from my vacation and will return to my normally scheduled mid week reviews. And don't forget the special month coming up here on A Slice of Horror. June is camp out horror month! Look for reviews of all horror movies, TV shows, and books that revolve around camping, the woods, and the wilderness. So stay tuned for a whole series of reviews based in one of my favorite horror sub-genres. I am extremely excited for the direction the independent film market is moving. More often we are seeing interesting and original horror films coming out that try to really push the boundaries of their low budget with big ideas and big heart. One such movie that is coming soon is Beacon Point. This movie follows a group of hikers as they make their way up into the Appalachian wilderness. It is there that they discover a dark secret and a horrible legend becomes reality. As a huge fan of the "camp out" sub-genre of horror film I am really excited to see and review this movie when it comes out. The filmmakers are already done filming the movie, have finished editing, and are in the final stages of production. Now they need your help, as horror fans, to make the movie all the more crisp and amazing. You can contribute now to their Kickstarter and also win some awesome prizes for doing so. The filmakers love and care about their work and it really shows in the final project. Just watch the trailer below and you'll see what I mean. This movie looks amazing. As a screen writer and novelist myself I really praise the artists behind this film for putting out something they love and that we as horror fans will most likely enjoy. So jump over to the Kickstarter and help them out. And seriously, watch this awesome trailer. Here at A Slice of Horror I am happy to announce the new inclusion of Horror Radio Dramas to the line-up for regular reviews. Horror Radio and comics from the 1940s and 1950s have had a strong influence on the modern horror genre as we know it. The medium of the radio show was extremely popular when there was no TV in the home and the only way to see a movie was to go to the movie theater proper. This brought exciting tales of the macabre right to the living room of our homes! Now days, thanks to the world wide web and the ease of internet radio, these shows are being resurrected for the listening enjoyment of millions. There are also new horror radio shows being produced such as Fangoria's Dread Time Stories. I have added the radio reviews as an adjacent portion of the TV section of the website. Because of the brevity of the horror radio drama I will be including reviews of these episodes as mid-week mini reviews appearing in between my regular reviews of Goosebumps and Tales from the Crypt episodes. Thanks for visiting! And check out the review of Suspense Radio's The House in Cypress Canyon! |
