Summer is quickly on its way. Soon, kids will be out of school and running the streets, the ice cream man will be riding around and ringing his bell, parents will be planing family vacations, and there will be millions of people who are going on camping trips! Personally, I love camping and hiking and have loved it ever since I was a kid. However, even to this day I find myself getting the jitters when night begins to fall! I have always afraid of being isolated far out in the dark woods with no way to call for help. Well, it is obvious that many film makers have felt similarly about that sentiment! Over the years it seems like there has been hundreds of movies based in the deep dark woods during a camp out. So, in celebration of summer and of camping trips June will be a Summer Camp Horror Month! During the month of June 2014, right with the opening of the summer season, I will be reviewing summer camp themed horror films right here on A Slice of Horror! It was hard to choose only a few films for the month but I have selected five films for each Sunday of June. They cover a range from old to new and from well-known to independent films. The line up is as follows: Friday the 13th (1980), Camp Dread (2014), Bay of Blood (1971), Bloody Murder (2000), and then I close the month with Friday the 13th Part 2 (1981). Additionally, I will be reviewing camp themed TV episodes for the mid-week mini reviews on each Wednesday of June. There are so many summer camp horror films to choose from that I obviously couldn't do them all. And I wanted a good range of films in the ranks. Even so, please share what your favorite camp themed slashers are and I will make sure to include them in the future! Get ready for a month of camp site terror--one of my favorite sub-genres of the larger horror umbrella--here on A Slice of Horror! Coming this June! |
