The group members soon find a young women named Alex who has been trapped inside the "cage" for months and months. At the center of the cage is a cabin where Alex has been hiding out. Alex is wary of the group but tries to desperately explain that they are all trapped. Within the walls of the cage they can never really die during daylight hours. If they are mortally wounded they simply resurrect in the area where they originally "died"--the place where the first woke up in the cage.
What makes the situation worse are the creatures in the woods called "lures" that are trying to capture them all. If the lures capture them then they tie them up outside until it gets dark. When darkness falls the "Night Things" come out and kill you. If they kill you then you are dead for good. The only way to ward off the night things is with light. So it becomes up to those trapped in the cage to either survive every night with weakly lit candles or take the short daylight hours to find a way out of the cage.
The acting, however, was surprisingly well done. There were small moments that were obviously more amateur. But for a low-budget indie film the actors really made me care about what was going on. I cared about these people. That is a great achievement of film and fiction alike. I was specifically impressed with the two leading female characters. They were strong, interesting, and real.
The special effects were obviously low budget, but I thought they did very well with the limited resources they had. By far, the best part of this film was the use of camera tricks to really add to the suspense and fear in this film. The moments that were fast paced were frightening. The moments of anticipation and tension were truly creepy and atmospheric. I was legitimately on the edge of my seat during the climax of the film and feeling chills during the dark moments. Truthfully, this is a well done shoe string budget film. I enjoyed the story, I enjoyed the strange science, I enjoyed the gore and suspense, and most of all I enjoyed the characters.
