Disney's movie has become a staple of the holiday and a tradition in many homes. If Rudolf The Red Nose Reindeer is a classic Christmas movie then Hocus Pocus is the equivalent for Halloween.
With big name stars such as Bette Midler this film has appealed to audiences young and old alike. So let's just jump right in and take a look at a Halloween classic that will not be forgotten.
Jump to the modern day and the Sanderson Sisters are nothing more than a story and a legend in schools. However, on Halloween night a teenage boy, his sister, and a friend from school sneak into the old Sanderson house and accidentally awaken the witches.
It is a race until morning as the three kids try to undo the damage they have caused. But the Sanderson Sisters have other plans. They are working non-stop to complete their spell and steal the youth from the children of Salem for good.
There is a zombie with his mouth sewn shut, there is a boy trapped inside a cat's body for centuries, and there is a scene where a few characters get shut inside an industrial oven and cooked alive. It is all fairly serious stuff that is pulled off well for a children's movie.
Overall, what makes this film such a classic is the combination of the Halloween season with the fantastic performance by the three witches. Bette Midler and her two supporting actresses are brilliantly goofy and yet sinister all at the same time. They've become icons of Halloween themselves.
