Return to House on Haunted Hill is an obviously low budget film with a contrived plot and poor acting. It seemed that Dark Castle Films were hoping to make this a successful direct to DVD horror franchise. It seems to be the route of many horror franchises at this point and they seem to do fairly well. Unfortunately this direct to DVD squeal did not sell well and therefore was the ultimate demise of the franchise.
Overall she was the only decent actor in the film. The script was written so poorly and the rest of the cast such lousy actors that it made Amanda Righetti look like a fine Shakespearean actor. I've seen worse acting but I definitely wasn't impressed. On top of that, the script itself seemed like it was just thrown together. The idea that this Idol is the demonic force that possessed the house came out of nowhere and made little sense.
It is a trite plot and many of the deaths unnecessarily over the top or incoherent. Most of the characters are there just to die and that is literally all we know about them in the end. It was honestly frustrating and stupid.
Supposedly, there was also an unrated version of the film where the audience members got to choose what would happen in the film. I honestly wasn't interested in getting that version of the film and didn't find the "choose your own adventure" gimmick very intriguing.
