The story follows the teenage version of the little girl from the previous film--and from the first game--Sheryl Mason. She and her father--who is played by the wonderful actor Sean Bean--have been constantly on the run. They move to a new town every six or so months and Sheryl is forced to change her name each time. In this new town she is going by Heather--the name of the protagonist in the third game. But Heather has no real idea why they are always on the run. All she knows is that she is having these hellish nightmares about a place called Silent Hill.
He walks her home after one such bought with the dark supernatural elements she doesn't understand. But when they get there her father is gone, kidnapped. And a bloody insignia on the wall beckons her to come to Silent Hill. Vincent agrees to help her and they both head off for Silent Hill.
They enter the hellish town and realize that her father is being kept in the lowest levels of the town. Vincent makes a distraction and Heather runs to go help her father. The rest of the movie is filled will hellish imagery and grotesque monsters all trying to kill Heather and Vincent.
The story of the film was engaging enough while still hearkening back to the original source material. It's always fun to see some of the Silent Hill monsters come to life on the screen. Although a lot of the CGI moments were very silly looking. It isn't as polished as a AAA film would be but still manages to be entertaining and exciting.
All the actors did a good job, most of them are well known. But the dialogue was so poorly written that it made me cringe every time one of these great actors was forced to say a pitiful or contrived line. Particularly, some of the "romantic" scenes between Vincent and Heather were truly gag worthy. And one scene with Sean Bean talking to his wife through the mirror felt like it was just shoved in for context.
