All Cheerleaders Die follows the teenage antics of a cheerleading squad and the football players they cheer for. A new school year is quickly coming up and the football team is getting pumped up for their senior year. But there is one new cheerleader in the squad who is out to ruin their senior year for good.
The new girl sweeps in and steals the football captain’s girlfriend for herself. This doesn’t blow over well for him and he hits his now ex-girlfriend. This starts a huge fight which ends up with all the cheerleaders dead at the bottom of a lake. But they didn’t know that the school witch was watching, and being in love with one of the cheerleaders, resurrects the cheerleading squad as bloodthirsty succubus type zombies.
This starts the ball rolling on an all-out war between the football team who did them in the first time and the undead cheerleaders. The rest of the movie is filled with gut wrenching gore and violence.
The highlight of the film is when the girls first get their “new powers” as queens of the undead. They realize the superhuman strength they have and the need and desire for blood. The first feeding was an interesting and engaging scene. This type of blood sucking zombie seems fairly attached to teen fiction. I’ve only seen this type of vampiric zombie in young adult novels and teen movies such as this. And I think I like it and wish they would use it more widely in film and fiction.
I felt like we hardly got to see these female characters use their newfound powers and show how strong they were. It just felt like the film got cut off pre-maturely. They spent a significant amount of time building backstory and character but it ended up cutting too much into the main action of the climax.
I honestly feel this story would play out much better as a television or web series. That way the writers could spend a significant amount of time developing character during pilot and the first few episodes. And then we get to see the girls in action with their new undead superpowers for a longer period of time. But as a movie the story felt cut short and a little flat at the end. It honestly ruined much the experience for me as a viewer.
