With the Puppet Master series, Charles Band owner of Full Moon Features, said that they were shooting for one hundred movies. Now, whether that was in jest or in all seriousness I'm simply happy to hear that cheaky 80s theme song and see little old blade in action again.
There is something so different and entertaining about old horror cheese from the 80s and 90s. It managed to be entertaining, scary, and fun all at the same time without (generally) turning into an exploitation film. I'm thinking of film in the vain of Tales From the Crypt. All of the Puppet Master films are along the same lines of awesome low budget camp.
In many ways I enjoy the second installment in the Puppet Master series more than the first. I think the plot is more interesting, the characters more likable and engaging, and the villain is just perfect. Aditionally, this film has more of the staples (or cliches if you prefer) of the horror genre. A creepy graveyard aside a mansion, an undead zombified man raised from his grave, and a little twist of the mad scientist all made the cut into this film.
So there are many excuses to kill people off in this film and most of them are silly and exciting. My particular favorite is the battle with the old farmer's wife. She has some spunk and puts some humor into the scene. The story is intriguing as well, with some fun little mad scientist elements thrown in the mix.
The movie, of course, has it's cons. It is a low budget film so it will have many bad elements. Some bad acting, some pointless plot elements etc. I think one thing that bothered me was the fact that they just put one of the dead bodies in the freezer instead of taking it into town. It was a strange scene that didn't make a lot of sense.
