During the 80s and 90s, TV sitcoms would often have an episode where the characters sat around and reminisced about the previous season. In this type of episode we were subject to clips of archive footage from all the previous episodes. I remember coming home from school on a Friday, turning on the TV, and there being an episode like this on. Instantly I, and all of my family, would roll our eyes and turn off the TV. Nobody, wanted to watch an episode like that. It is a lazy and cheap move on the part of the writers and producers of the show.
Just as I loath these types of episodes I also loathe this film. Puppet Master: The Legacy, is basically a recap of all the previous movies. We get two new characters who come on the screen and describe what has happened in the puppets' lives. Then we are subjected to flash-backs of archive footage we've already seen from all the other movies. The editing is also very poorly done. The sound and film cut off in strange places when switching between segments and narrators. It was like Full Moon Features didn't even bother to put any effort into their own tribute movie. That is exactlly what this movie was, a tribute. The film ends with a big thank you to all the contributors of the series. Give me a break, the audience doesn't want to see your lazy movie.
There isn't much else to say about this movie. It is a waste of time and effort. It shows how lazy and cheap the creators were with this film. It is an embarrassment to the series. The most harrowing fact is that the film company advertised it as a sequel in the series. This means people who are fans of Puppet Master went out and paid money for this. Little did they know that they were paying for movies they already owned. Can you imagine if Friday the 13th or Nightmare on Elm Street did a movie like this? It would be an abomination And that is exactly what this movie is.
